Ursula von der leyen

I’m a proud European, a mother of seven, and I’m running for a second term as President of the European Commission.

Now, more than ever

As a mother of seven, I want my children’s children to grow in a safe, prosperous Europe. A medical doctor by training, I have dedicated the last 20 years of my life to public service. I first became involved in politics at local and regional level. From 2005 to 2019, I was the federal minister in charge of family and youth, then labour and social affairs, and finally defence, in Germany.

I took the helm of the European Commission in 2019. It has been the honour of my lifetime. In the last years, we have been confronted with the biggest challenges our Union and our people ever had to face. A global pandemic. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
An acute energy crisis.

more than a union

Under my leadership, the Commission took fast and bold steps to respond to these challenges.

  • Keeping Europe running during the pandemic.
  • Delivering weapons and unprecedented support to Ukraine.
  • Bringing back energy prices to pre-war levels.

Taking on one challenge after the other, we always kept the course towards our common European goals. A leading role of the EU in the global fight against climate change while boosting Europe’s clean tech industries. A digital decade. And a fair and competitive Europe, that leaves no one behind.

This is the story of how we pulled through, and how we are building our future together. A story that I want to continue writing with all of you.
